Evaluate the article (U7: M4)

M4 (U7): Explain the mode of address and structure used The article I wrote for 'New Angle' was focused on the issue of fast fashion and its impact on our environment. I believe writing this article was well suited to the online news website as its audience needs to be informed of the issue, teens are one of the largest consumers of fast fashion brands so informing them of the negative effects is more likely to affect change than informing an older audience who are set in their ways. The mode of address used in this article was formal and direct as this was serious reportage that needs to use a serious tone in order to show the gravity of the situation which has been and will continue to be an issue for many years. Within the article, formal language was used such as the phrase "an alarmingly high percentage" to indicate to readers the significance of the issues being discussed within the story. The use of the adverb "alarmingly" shows the urgency of the sit...

Editing Photography (U8: P4, P5, M4)

P4 (U8): Organise the photographic images and apply image processing techniques to meet the client's brief   Image processing techniques In the screenshots above you can see I have saved the image as a JPEG file format as this file type is the best for both print and online platforms, it will appear more clear and not pixelated in this format as the file is less compressed. The file is still slightly compressed to ensure it can be accessed online via websites or social media. The images will not need to be blown up for billboard sized images and therefore this compression won't impact the appearance or quality of the image.  In the screenshots above I have changed this image to a PNG file type which is good for the purpose as it wont lose quality each time it is resaved and opened. Therefore if the image needs to be edited several times then the quality wont be altered or lost with this file format.  M4 (U8): Classify the photographic images by embedding metadata In this ...

Taking Photography (U8: P3,M3)

P3 (U8): Manipulate camera settings to control exposure and focus Evidence of setting up the location and using equipment: reflector, tripod, camera, stand light Camera settings In this image, you are able to see the various settings possible for use on the Canon camera I used to capture my photographs. The settings which I primarily used and adjusted were 'Av' (aperture), 'Tv' (shutter speed), and the ISO settings which were done in 'M' (manual) mode. Here I could also adjust the focus and zoom of the camera lens in order to capture the best final result. The exposure and white balance settings were also adjusted through this mode by pressing the buttons provided on the backside of the camera to brighten or darken an image. In using this camera I found it very easy to produce my envisioned outcome for all of my images as the advanced settings were easy to navigate.  Lighting techniques Within the images taken, I was able to use a variety of lighting setups in o...

P6 (U7): Use sub-editing skills to finalise the article for publication. Final edit: Our addiction to clothing trends is killing our planet! Currently, the fashion industry is valued at $1.7 trillion as of 2022. This industry is clearly very successful across the globe as the increase for following the trends produced by fashion companies is rising. But at what cost? It is estimated that the global fashion industry is responsible for approximately 10% of annual global carbon emissions. Scientists have warned that this is devastatingly harmful to our environment and say that buying just one t-shirt is comparatively equivalent to driving 35 miles in your car. 'Fast fashion' might not be a term everyone is familiar with but it is having a huge impact on our planet. The concept of 'fast fashion' first began in the 1990's as the New York Times coined the term after the Zara clothing conglomerate began producing clothes soon after they appeared on the runway. This level...

Researching & Planning (U7: P4. M3. U8: P2, M2)

P4 (U7): Research and plan content for an original article The news story I will be focusing on within my upcoming article is a general interest story but also features elements of serious reportage within the topic being discussed. The story will focus on the controversy surrounding the fast fashion market and the unsustainability of some vastly popular brands. The genre can be identified as fashion and environment within this story as I discover the hidden truths behind the thriving market. Interestingly, this story is very relevant at this time as the landfills begin to rapidly grow with unwanted clothing. This is an important issue that audiences need to be informed on, therefore I will carry out extensive research in order to provide the best insight into the topic and generate more awareness for the problem. A large portion of my research will be secondary, using websites, other news articles, and social media platforms to learn more about the issues and what can be done to solve...
